Every Room

There is nothing fussy about Hotel Engelhard, and that is exactly the point. The rooms are small and immaculate — clean linens, a good heater, air conditioning for the summer, and quiet enough to hear the marsh at first light. Wi-Fi is free, parking is free and right outside your door, and a hot breakfast waits in the morning. Out front, a wide porch lined with rocking chairs is the unofficial gathering spot — coffee at dawn, trip notes at dusk.

Out here, the next hotel is a long way off — so if your plans bring you to the ferry, to a hunt, to a job nearby or just down the coast, reserve early. Rooms vary a little from one to the next; tell us how many of you there are and we'll match you to the right one.

The Breakfast Room

Mornings happen here — a hot, home-cooked breakfast at a price that surprises, served family-style and early enough to get you out the door for the boat or the blind.

The Table

Cooked
in-house

Breakfast is made here each morning and famously cheap — grits, eggs, bacon, muffins, oatmeal, the works — for just a few dollars. It is the kind of spread that has guests writing home, and it sets you up for an early start, whatever the day holds — the boat, the blind or the job site.

And come evening, the kitchen serves pizza and wings from 5 to 9 p.m. — so after a long day on the water, you never have to drive anywhere for dinner.

Quiet falls
early

No traffic, no neon — just the sound dimming to gold and neighbors on the porch comparing notes on the day. Turn in early, sleep deep, and you'll be up and gone before first light, ahead of the dock crowd and the working day.
