The case against the beach hotel
The nearest chain hotels are over on the Outer Banks, which sounds fine until you do the daily round trip. That’s two hours of windshield time every day, charged against a per diem that’s meant to cover a room and a meal, not a commute. Stay in Engelhard and you’re in the middle of the county, minutes from a lot of the work, with that hour back on each end of the shift. The room costs less too, which makes the expense report easier to defend.
Built for a work truck
Parking is free and there’s real room for it — pickups, a trailer, equipment, a boat if the job calls for one. You’re not squeezing a dually into a compact spot at a resort. The rooms are simple and clean, with A/C and heat you control and a real bed you can actually rest in after a long day. There’s a wide front porch with rocking chairs for the end of the shift.
Fed early, online for the paperwork
We cook a hot breakfast every morning — grits, eggs, bacon, muffins, oatmeal — and it’s cheap, so the crew’s fed before an early start without anybody hunting for a drive-thru that isn’t there. The Wi-Fi is free and good enough for the end-of-day reports, photos, and timesheets. And in the evening our kitchen runs pizza and wings from 5 to 9, including a $10 thin-crust pizza, which earns its keep when you roll in after everything else around here has closed.
Check-in and check-out are flexible because a real person works the desk — no app, no kiosk. Early starts, odd hours, a late arrival after a long haul: just call ahead and we’ll set it up. And because we don’t take deposits or charge booking fees, plans that shift mid-job don’t cost you.
Who stays with us
We see road and bridge crews, line and utility crews, farm hands through planting and harvest, surveyors, marine and seafood workers, refuge contract crews, and storm and hurricane restoration teams staging out of the county. Different jobs, same need: a fair room close to the work, an early breakfast, and someone at the desk who’ll work with the schedule.

For anything past a night or two, call the front desk and tell us your dates. We won’t post a number, because the right weekly or extended rate depends on the room, the season, and how long you’ll be with us — but we do this all the time and we’ll land on something fair.
